Wisdom and Wealth

How impressed with money are you?  Imagine for a moment that you are at a large gathering of people—a wedding, or some kind of party. Then a wealthy person walks into the room, someone famous and super-rich! (Insert a name here.) Would you notice? Would you be impressed? Most of us would. But why? I think it is because we are impressed with money and those who make lots and lots of it. Somehow we equate wisdom and success with the accumulation of money.

Our focus passage this Sunday morning—written by one of the wealthiest men who has ever lived—speaks to this:

Proverbs 30:7-9
Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, "Who is the Lord?" Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

I think we are highly and overly impressed with money.

But without God’s wisdom in the matter, I believe that we can be oppressed by money.

This coming Sunday, I am going to walk us through some of the proverbs about money and God’s wisdom. If we want God’s wisdom, we MUST learn some important lessons about how to deal with wealth and wisdom. As you prepare for Sunday morning, take a look at a few passages that speaks to us about money:

There is a lot in the Bible about money. Jesus himself talked about money a lot.  Why is there so much in Scripture on this subject?  Because this is where our real lives are. We need to bring God’s wisdom into it.

See you Sunday morning!
