Welcome to GIC season! LifeWay’s annual Global Impact Celebration will take place Wednesday, October 18- Sunday, October 22. We hope that you will prepare your calendar (ie, clear it!!) so that you can get the most out of this awesome time. But we also want you to prepare your heart and mind so that God can speak to you during that time. On Sunday, you will receive booklets with lots of information about the GIC, but also information about how you can begin asking God to direct you in your commitments over the next year. During the next few weeks, we will also spend some time on Sunday mornings learning about what it means to be SENT—our theme for this year’s GIC.
In the Bible we see a God who is both sender and sent in Christ. Jesus speaks of being sent by the Father, and commissions his followers to be the sent people of God, carrying out the mission of God—to proclaim redemption to all creation. Here’s a preview of the next four Sundays:
We are Sent by a Sent Savior
…As the Father has sent me, I am sending you… John 20:21
We are Sent with a Message
…The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem… Luke 24:46-47
We are Sent to all People
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… Matthew 28:19
We are Sent in the Power of the Spirit
…But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth… Acts 1:8
