In addition to the global coronavirus crisis, did you know we are also in the middle of a global fertility crisis? It is happening all over our world. Women are having fewer children, or no children at all. In 1950, women had an average of 4.7 children in their lifetime. By 2019, the fertility rate had shrunk to half. Women are having an average of 2.4 children in their lifetime. In Taiwan, where I am from, women on average are having one child.
In a world where more women are choosing to have fewer children, or no children at all, for many different reasons, it is personally encouraging to me to find young women who long to be mothers. For our oldest daughter, being a mom is all she ever wanted. She is a 4th year film student in college. For her graduating senior project, she chose to make a film on nothing else, but on motherhood. Unfortunately, her film failed to take off when the coronavirus hit our planet. Even though there is not going to be a motherhood film, here is a short promotional video. To all of you who are mothers, I hope this video, together with all the young women out there who long to be mothers, encourages you.
