Happy Mother’s Day!
It feels like I’ve known my mom for practically my whole life. And I’m still not tired of her! She is both the most loving and toughest woman I know and has taught me so much, my whole life.
She has been the biggest encouragement in my life, from the first time I walked to riding a bike, swim meets and baseball games, rugby matches and school dances, and the list goes on and on. But out of all that, I think one of the biggest things that I appreciate about my mom is the fact that she is always encouraging me to follow and know God.
Growing up, whenever there was a decision about my future, one of the things my mom would always say is that none of her children belong to her; we all are gifts from God. And she would remind me (and my siblings) that we need to do our best to follow God.
This same sentiment is echoed by Rachel’s mom, who often will say the same thing: Rachel was a gift that she had to give back to God. On many different occasions, Diane has said that she doesn’t want to get to Heaven and have God say that He had such great plans for Rachel, but Diane wouldn’t let her go. Because of that, Diane has been one of Rachel’s biggest encouragements to follow God into ministry and to live a life fully devoted to Him.
Moms have the unique opportunity to guide their children and those around them towards Christ in a way that no one else can, and introducing someone to Jesus is the greatest gift anyone can offer. So on this Mother’s Day, I hope that those of us who have been so mightily affected by a godly mother will be able to show our appreciation today.
For those mothers reading this, I hope you will be encouraged to continue to point your children and those around you to Christ.
