In and around the years 2008 to 2010 here at LifeWay Church, they were tough years here, and we began wrestling with how to follow God’s lead to make a difference in the world. The leadership of this congregation were deeply moved and began to take distinctive steps to leading our church in very specific ways into how to take on the responsibility of making footprints for the gospel in specific places in the world that He has guided us to. Simply put, we felt led to be a mission supporting and a missions sending church. This is when, where, how and why the GIC season at this church began. It is still to the day the most treasured season in our church. Because of the impact of the GIC season, we have seen almost 75 of our people travel to places of calling to serve in short term ways for the gospel. We have also seen about 10 of our people who have literally moved and serve Christ in missionary ways to a different part of the world for the sake of the gospel. We have supported financially over the past decade close to $1.5 million dollars in giving for national and global gospel work. The clocks on the wall mean a great to us personally. The GIC season has impacted us greatly. And there is more to come.
This coming Sunday we will teaching out of the theme of this years GIC… “Sent.” Heather will be launching this series of sermons that start this week with – “We are Sent by a Savior.” Each of the next three Sunday’s we will be looking at how out of the gospel story how we are sent… what are we sent with… where are we sent… and then what is the power we are sent with. To prepare for this weekend, I would encourage you to read the story in John 20:19-23 as we begin this month of our GIC season.
The actual GIC event itself begins on Wednesday October 18 and ends on Sunday morning October 24 where our dear friend Allen McLellan will be challenging us with a message that day.
Pray for a great GIC season. Prepare your hearts for what God has to say to us all.
