What is duty of care? Those in my life that I am responsible for.
What is prayer? An invitation into the special place where I communicate with Almighty God regarding those in my life that I am responsible for.
Have you ever had an invitation to attend an exclusive grand event? An invitation to the Governor’s mansion? The White House? The home of a powerful person? If I ever received an invitation like this, I would frame it and hang it on the wall in a special place.
On Sunday mornings as we continue our study in John 17, we find a personal invitation to us from the Almighty God to enter the Holy of Holies where he resides. This is the priestly prayer of Jesus in this most Holy of Holies: he prayed for himself and his purposes to be fulfilled (17:1-5), then he proceeded to pray for his followers. Our invitation is from Jesus Christ to join with the Almighty in the Holy of Holies and learn to communicate with the Creator God himself. You and I—the mortals, the inadequate, the shortsighted and blind—are allowed to walk into the presence of the Holy God in the Holy of Holies where God resides. That is what prayer is. This is our study.
Stay with me over these weeks as we walk through this chapter and learn how Jesus prayed, and how we can learn to pray for those in our duty of care. Prepare by reading John 17 carefully each week. Take notes. Reflect and meditate on its meanings. In a study Bible, take time to read commentary that others have written on this chapter.
In the end, we are all learning how to come into the presence of God, communicate with him, and live out our duty in this life.
See you Sunday morning—online, of course!
