Back in September, Billy launched a comprehensive five-year Sunday morning teaching plan. For the next five years, he has committed himself to teach us how to read the Bible for ourselves, and to catch the deeper theologies of our God. At the end of five years, it is his hope that each one of us at LifeWay would mature in our ability to take what we read in the Bible to direct how we think and do, no matter what comes our way.
Last Sunday, Billy took us into what is the section of the current message series that chronicles Christ’s work here on earth. He kicked off the series section with a message on the baptism of Jesus. After John the Baptist baptized Jesus, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” To me, this was the Father’s way of saying to us, “This is the One.” Here was a special relationship between the Father and the Son.
But on Sunday, we will discover that this special relationship came under scrutiny. The Devil stood to challenge this special relationship between the Father and the Son. The three temptations by the Devil in the wilderness were by no means the only temptations Jesus faced in the Bible, but they were arguably the most well known. How were the temptations designed to work to destroy the relationship between the Father and the Son? What exactly was the Devil challenging the Son in the temptations?
Join us in person or by livestream this Sunday, and let’s come together and think together how the story of Jesus’ temptations work to strengthen our conviction that Christ is the One. See you Sunday!
