Have you ever owned something of great value that was extremely precious to you?
Have you ever shared something of great personal value with someone who benefited greatly from it—maybe something that filled a huge void in the person’s life?
A meal to someone who was hungry?
A tutoring lesson to someone who needed help with a classroom assignment?
Emotional support to someone who was experiencing grief?
A shoulder to cry on for someone experiencing pain?
This coming Sunday morning we are going to continue to address Building His Church as we build the first of the four walls to His Church—the Kingdom Wall. When we build His Church, we must fully embrace the Kingdom mandates, the Kingdom priorities, the Kingdom leadership of the Holy Spirit, and the responsibilities of Kingdom citizens. This Sunday we are teaching through the Kingdom treasures, which are NOT to be hoarded, but instead are to be distributed. This is hard for most of us to understand, because when we find something of great value, we just don’t know what to do with it.
As you prepare for this coming Sunday morning, I challenge you to read from two places in the scripture, and let these stories from God’s Word shape your understanding of the distribution of God’s bounty.
- Read Acts 3
- This is a story of Peter and the disciples, who were still in Jerusalem after Pentecost. Jesus had recently ascended into heaven, and the Holy Spirit had come upon them and was leading all they did. Concentrate on Acts 3:6 to see how Peter responded to the crippled man who was asking for help.
- Read Matthew 13
- Read this whole chapter, looking carefully at Jesus’ four parables and the picture he gave us of what the Kingdom of God was like—how God’s people play a role in God’s Kingdom work.
The Kingdom of God through His Church is built with the material of his treasure, his amazing bounty. Who holds this bounty, this great treasure? God’s Kingdom citizens do! And how is it distributed? Through the leadership and the power of the Holy Spirit! Get ready for Sunday morning by thinking through these passages, and be ready to be challenged with your part in building His Church.
See you Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
