We are continuing to study Proverbs all summer, which is a merging of God’s wisdom with our real lives. Many of the proverbs we have highlighted are not well known at all. I encourage you to continue to read through the book of Proverbs for the summer, and highlight some that stand out to you. Some you will find interesting—and a few you will even find odd-sounding. But this coming Sunday’s focus verse is actually one of the most famous quotes in Proverbs. One of the more famous renderings of this verse goes like this:
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. (KJV)
This is God’s wisdom merged with the raising of our children.
As you prepare for this Sunday, pull out your Bible and read carefully the following verses:
I am going to walk us through a message based out of Proverb 22:6 and our challenge in raising children. One of the most delightful things to do in the world is to raise a child and watch them grow and flourish. At the same time, one of the most daunting tasks is to raise a child while trying to guide and help them navigate the treacherous waters of this world. Raising a child is sort of like following a set of blueprints. Blueprints are just drawings on a piece of paper, but it requires tremendous work, skill, and care to turn them into something that is real.
I am going to walk us through three different blueprint scenarios that we can choose from:
- The set of blueprints for rebellion
- The set of blueprints for prevention
- The set of blueprints for wisdom
Get your hearts ready and do some contemplating on this before Sunday.
