John 6:1-15: Jesus Feeds 5000
When I was a little boy, I grew up in a Sunday School class and went every summer to Vacation Bible School. Those days certainly impacted my life in a huge way, and I am so grateful for the teachers and leaders who led me. Often we don’t remember details about those Sunday School days, but I do remember this one. We learned the story of how Jesus fed 5000 people (actually, because of the way they counted, it was probably 15,000 or more). But how did he feed such a huge crowd? With just a few loaves of bread and a few fish that were given to him, he multiplied it to the point where not only the thousands were fed, but there were leftovers!
The point often made in my kids’ Sunday School class was, “Look how God can take just a little bit and can multiply it to the point of using it to bless thousands.” This is a true application point in this story. But it is not the only point.
We are in a series about discovering what kind of Jesus this is. Each week we are taking a story out of the book of John and investigating what this story says about Jesus. As we approach this coming Sunday, I ask you to read ahead and contemplate not only the story of the feeding of the 5000 in John 6:1-15, but also the next miraculous event in John 6:16-24—Jesus walking on water.
Last week we asked the question, “What kind of God is this Jesus?”
- The Quid Pro Quo god?
- The Santa Claus god?
- Or the Ruling God in your life?
We are taking another step forward this weekend.
See you Sunday at 10 a.m. through one of our 3 doors to worship:
